Despite the market demise
for small cap stocks to date this year, there are still some share price gainers among Investorfile's Top Ideas over the last six months.
So far, the first half of
this year ranks as one of the most difficult periods to produce results as
a small-and-microcap stock picker in non-resource sectors. While the financial
performance for a majority of our Top Ideas is strong, very low valuations and
little liquidity are the dominant trends for small and microcap stocks in 2022.
While we can not fathom things getting worse for the valuations of
Investorfile’s Top Ideas, a strong balance sheet (which most of our stock picks have) is an important quality to help weather the current downturn.
However, there is hope that small cap stocks will lead the recovery in the
market and, as such, begin to recoup some of their losses from the first
half of this year.
The high-point average return among all of our 24 Top
Ideas, since the inception of the Investorfile blog in December 201, stands at
417% at the timeframe ending June 30, 2022. Despite
the market demise for small cap stocks to date this year, two of Investorfile’s stock
picks did set new high point return marks during this period: Noble Iron
(TSXV:NIR) +360% and EcoSynthetix (TSX: ECO) +309%.
At the mid-point for 2022, the current total average return
since inception of the Investorfile blog stands at 207%, overall for our stock
selections. This is notably less than the current total average return at the
end of 2021.
